Richard Allen Coatney passed away at the age of 61 at Providence Hospital. He was born to Archie D. and Nancy Coatney. Richard attended Lovelock Grade School, graduated from Sparks High School in 1954 and received a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from the University of Nevada in 1960. He was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. Richard had lived in Alaska since 1961, coming from Lovelock. In 1960, he worked for Eagle Picher Mineral as a chemist in Lovelock. Richard worked for the State of Alaska Department of Transportation, retiring in 1990 as an assistant director of the south central region. After retirement, he was call on with the Federal Emergency Management Agency that responds to disaster emergencies across the United States. Surviving are wife, Kathleen (Karstens) and daughter, Kristin Parsons, both of Anchorage; son, David of Wasilla, AK; daughters, Stephanie Price of Aiken, SC and Paige Coatney of San Diego; brothers, Donald and mother, Nancy Coffin, both of Grand Junction, CO; and three grandchildren. His father preceded him in death.
