Marguerite Irene McKinney Jackson, 91, of Hermiston, a former longtime Baker City resident, died June 11, 2007, at Portland.

Her funeral was today at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Baker City. Bishop Ernie Collard officiated.

Marguerite was born on June 24, 1915, at Malheur to James Edward and Samantha Bowman McKinney. She was the eighth of 11 children. She grew up and attended schools in the Cornucopia, Sumpter and Baker City areas. While at Cornucopia she rode horseback to school along with her brothers and sisters.

Marguerite married Ira Elroy Jackson on Sept. 22, 1934, at Baker City. Soon after their marriage, the couple moved to Hillspring, Alberta, Canada, where Mr. Jackson worked on his dad's wheat ranch.

About five years later, they moved to Prosser, Wash., and then returned to Baker City. During World War II they spent several months at Oregon City (Park Place) where Mr. Jackson taught machine tooling. The family later returned to Baker City.

During her lifetime, Marguerite worked at the Baker Cafe and for C.C. Andersons, Safeway and Levinger's Rexall Drug Store. After she retired from Levinger's, she worked part time at the Hallmark Card store before moving to Yakima, Wash., to be near her daughter, Evelyn.

She enjoyed the outdoors and liked to take her grandsons fishing in the Baker City area. They have great memories of these fishing trips. Marguerite also enjoyed the big family get-togethers with her brothers and sisters — the good food and good stories. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ira Elroy Jackson; her daughter, Evelyn Ruth Jackson Reaves; a son-in-law, Michael B. Reaves; grandson, Michael B. Reaves II; eight brothers, William, Louis, George, Alva, Andrew, Robert, Walter and Bud; and two sisters, Mabel and Viola.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Cancer Foundation, the Kidney Foundation, the Diabetes Association or LDS Primary Children Hospital.
