Mrs. Irene Victoria (Mattos) Costa of 48 Adams Street, wife of Manuel J. Costa Jr., died unexpectedly Sunday [Jul 03, 1966] afternoon at her home. She was 42. Taken to Morton Hospital at 4:02 p.m. Sunday by Taunton police after suffering a seizure at her home, she was dead on arrival at the hospital. Dr. David F. Gouveia, assistant medical examiner, attributed death to a coronary occlusion. Mrs. Costa was born in Raynham, daughter of the late John Almeida and Victoria (Paige) Mattos, and was employed as a stitcher at the Rennie Manufacturing Company Inc. She was educated in Raynham and Taunton schools and had lived in this city most of her life. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church and a member of the women’s auxiliary, American Legion Post 11, Berkley.
Surviving in addition to her husband are five daughters, Mrs. Davis (Beverly) Rogers, Mrs. Thomas (Diane) Ferris, and Luci, Patricia and Norine Costa, all of this city, five sisters, Mrs. Mary Furtado-Cayton and Mrs. Frank (Christine) Mendoza of this city, Mrs. Frank (Elsie) Viera of Raynham, Mrs. Fred (Evelyn) Giovino of East Bridgewater and Mrs. Alden (Dorothy) Hutchinson of Bristol, RI; a brother, John of Raynham; a grandson, Thomas Ferris Jr. of this city; and several nieces and nephews.
