Mrs. E. Elizabeth Bittle, 92, of Myersville, and a resident of Fahrney-Keedy Home for the past 5 years, died Sunday, July 20, 2014 in the presence of her family. She was born September 13, 1921 near Graceham, MD, the daughter of the late Emory E. and Marie E. [Hoover] Rice.

Elizabeth is survived by her four children: Patricia Mose, Rachel Black, David Bittle and wife, Susan, of Hagerstown, and Debbie Bittle-Wilson and husband, Robert , of Myersville; eight grandchildren Seth Mose, Shalom Black Lane and husband Adam, Sarah Black Ickes and husband Brian, Jordan Bittle and wife Christy, Asher Bittle and wife Chriss, Abigail Bittle Griffith and husband Keith, Caleb and Jacob Wilson; and nine great grandchildren, Zofia Lane, Judah and Lydia Ickes, Noah and Eli Bittle, Blake and Darby Bittle, Parker and Raegan Griffith.

She is also survived by her brother E. Eugene Rice, her nephew Obed Brandenburg, and her nieces Beverly Stottlemyer, Serena Gadd, and Martha Bittle.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Clarence U. Bittle. She was also predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Catharine and Eldin Brandenburg; her sisters, Margaretta Rice and Jeanette Rice; and her sons-in-law Jerry Mose and Wayne Black.

She was a devoted member for more than 65 years of the Myersville Church of the Brethren where she and her husband served as deacons. She also taught Sunday School, played the piano, sang in the choir, and served in whatever capacity was needed. Her unwavering love of her Lord and her unconditional love of her family was evident to all who knew her. She loved to garden and was an exceptional seamstress and quilter. Her home was always clean and tidy, but, most especially, it was a place of warmth and welcome.

Traditionally, Sunday evenings were a time when the family would come home to visit. In honor of that tradition, the Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, August 3rd at 4 p.m. at the Myersville Church of the Brethren, 201 Main St., Myersville, MD. The family will greet friends and family from 2 to 4 p.m., at the church, prior to the service. The Reverends Jim Peyton and Tom Fralin will officiate.
