EARLEASE (HENDERSON) BLACKWELL, age 89, departed this earthly life on Sunday, January 11, 2004.
She was born in Covington, Tennessee on March 30, 1914. She was the sixth child of seven born to Lonnie and Lena Cross, who preceded her in death.
She joined the New Bethel Baptist Church under the pastorate of Rev. G. B. Parker. She served faithfully until her health failed under the leadership of Pastor Richard E. Wilford, IL. She was a member of the Mother Board Kitchen and Beautifying Ministries. She also worked for her church on various committees.
She was untied in holy matrimony with Alser Lee Blackwell, who preceded her in death.
Her parents and 4 sisters and 1 brother also preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her memory: a loving and devoted son & daughter-in-law, Willie (Ethel) Shelton; 5 grandchildren, Minister Fayette (Clinton) Griffin, Minister Kim (Russell) Rhodes of O'Fallon, IL, Willie Shelton, Jr. of New York, NY, Andreal Lynn Shelton of Houston, Texas, and Toya Shelton of Gary, IN; 2 great grandchildren, Inetris Rondo and RuSean Rhodes of O'Fallon, IL; 1 brother, Dan (Florence) Cross of Gary, IN; 5 nieces, Jean Helen Kelly, Rudean Cross, and Elaine Allen of Gary, IN, Deloris Armstrong of Dallas, Texas, and Belin (Dr. Donald) Tucker of Austin, Texas; 3 nephews, Leon (Peter), Kenneth, and Stanley Cross of Gary, IN; 1 brother-in-law, Tom (Ollie Mae) of Newsyme Beach, FL; goddaughter, Dorothy (Clyde) Bridgeman of Pine Bluff, Arkansas; special friend, Dorsey (J.C) Moore of Gary, IN; New Bethel Church Family, and a host of great and great great nieces & nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation Friday, January 16, 2004, 12-8 p.m., with family hour from 6-7 p.m. at Guy & Allen Chapel, 2959 W. 11th Avenue. Funeral Services Saturday, January 17, 2004, 11:00 a.m. at New Bethel Baptist Church, 2325 West 21st Avenue, Pastor Richard E. Wilford, II officiating. Interment Evergreen Memorial Park.
