Illa LaZell Roberts Gerber, at the age of 90, has returned to her Heavenly Father on July 14, 2014 in Glenrock, Wyoming.

She was born March 21, 1924 to David and Lottie (Hymas) Roberts in Liberty, Idaho. She was the fifth child.

Illa grew up in Liberty. At the age of 4, she contracted polio. She had to spend many months at a time for 3 years at the Shriners Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. Even though she wore a brace on her leg, this never stopped her from doing everything that she wanted to do. Her father would lovingly repair her brace every time she broke it. This happened quite often. Even though she missed part of her 3rd grade in school, her Uncle Amos, who was the principal at the time, told her that if she studied hard and kept up with the other students, he would let her go on to the 4th grade. She did just that and went on to the 4th grade with her peers. She graduated from Fielding High School.

Illa attended one year at Ricks College. She found employment in Montpelier where she met David John Gerber. She married David on April 17, 1948 in the Idaho Falls Temple. Through this union, 3 children were born, Richard David, and twins, Lynn Roberts and Linda.

Illa was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held several positions throughout her life which included Junior Sunday School Teacher for 17 years, Relief Society secretary, and Literature teacher. She was always there to help David with the many, many banquets that he cooked for Stake, Ward and community activities.

She loved to read. It wasn't unusual for her to read over 50 books a year. Her disability did not stop her from doing the things she loved to do. She loved to spend time gardening and growing beautiful flowers. Also helping on the farm by driving truck to haul hay or feed the cattle. She enjoyed life and loved her family. She loved the times she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. After David died in November 1990, she went to Glenrock, Wyoming to live with her daughter for the past 23 years.

She is survived by two children, Lynn (Debra) of Pocatello, Idaho, Linda of Glenrock, Wyoming and daughter-in-law, Joy Gerber of Auburn, Wyoming; her grandchildren, Tanielle (Shaun) Summerill, Melissa (Michael) Myers and Jeremy Gerber; great-grandchildren, Corbin Myers, Abbigail Summerill, Jace Myers, Madilyn Summerill, Isaac Summerill and Ella Summerill.

She is preceded in death by her husband, David, her son, Richard, her parents, two sisters, Verona Bunderson and Oletha Ward, and 4 brothers, Ronald Roberts, Norman Roberts, LaMar Roberts, and Udell Roberts.

Funeral services will he held on July 25, 2014 at the Montpelier 2nd ward chapel at 1:00 pm. Viewing will be held from 11:00 am to 12:45 pm prior to the services at the Montpelier 2nd ward chapel. She will be buried in the Montpelier Cemetery.
