Martell was born July 26, 1927 to Hyrum Swen and Dorothy Cutler Erickson in Salt Lake City.
She was raised and lived her entire life in the Foothill area of Salt Lake City. As a child, she would spend summers in Hemet, California with her family.
She loved the state of Utah and the history of this City in part due to the fact that she was the great-granddaughter of Utah Governor John C. Cutler.
She graduated from East High School and LDS Business College. She worked at the State Capitol after college and there she met the love of her life, Clark W. Brimhall. They were married on April 20, 1956; later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. They have four sons, all of whom were Marty's favorite.
Martell was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but more importantly, lived the Gospel each day of her life as she served others.
She was a compassionate caregiver and took care of her family and countless neighbors and friends as they declined in health or just needed help. She served others endlessly up until the day our dad passed and Mom was unable to live by herself. She had charity for all of those around her.
Marty had a quick wit and dry sense of humor, and could put anyone she met at ease, making friends quickly and having all those around her feel like they were the most important person she had ever met.
Her greatest love in life was her husband and four boys. She would do anything for them and made the family home a place of peace, comfort, security, and warmth.
Martell is preceded in death by her husband, Clark; her parents; sister, Marjorie E. Smith; brother, Hyrum S. Erickson, Jr. (Eric); infant son, George; and grandson, Anthony. She is survived by her sons, Brad (Karen), Rob (Wendy), Greg (Nancy), and Eric (Tawnya); twenty-two grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren (one on the way); her best friend of eighty-two years, Shirley West; 'adopted' son, Dave Mackay; numerous nieces and nephews; and countless friends.
The family would like to thank all of Marty's caregivers over the past eighteen months at the Draper Wentworth and Envision Hospice.
There will be a viewing held on Friday, July 25, 2014 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South Highland Drive (1495 East). The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m., with a viewing one hour prior, on Saturday, July 26, 2014 in the Salt Lake Foothill Stake Center, 1933 South 2100 East.
