Don L. Anderson, age 83, of Carrollton, Ohio, died Wednesday afternoon, July 16, 2014 surrounded by his family in his residence following a one-year illness.

He retired in 2000 as the owner and operator of Anderson Construction which he operated for more than 35 years. He was principally a dairy farmer. He assumed the operation of his parents' dairy farm in Monroe Township, and continued that tradition for most of his life. Don, along with his late brother Gene, also excavated graves in a number of Carroll County cemeteries for many years.

He was born March 9, 1931 in Monroe Township, Carroll County, Ohio and was the son of the late Carl and Anna Andersdotter Anderson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Luvinna Marie Leggett Anderson, who died March 12, 1992, five brothers Harry, Karl, Arnold, Doyle, and A. Eugene "Gene" Anderson, and a sister, Elvera L. "Vera" Dingler.

He was a member of the Carrollton Trinity Lutheran Church and was a U. S. Army veteran. He was a faithful member of the Pelican Club in Lee Township. Don was always very community minded, and served on the Carroll County Health Board for 50 years, was a life member of the Carrollton American Legion Post #428, served on the Carroll County Soil and Water Conservation Board, and was a former member of the Dellroy Ruritan Club. As a young man, he was highly involved in the Future Farmers of America. He will be missed by his family, his community, and his many friends..

He is survived by his wife Idell Phillips Loveless Anderson, whom he married March 3, 1993, his three children Melvin R. "Jake" (Donneda) Anderson of Carrollton, Mrs. Roger (Janet) Smith of Bowerston, O., and Scott W. (Alicia) Anderson of Cinnaminson, New Jersey, two step-daughters, Linda Tyna of Medina, O., and Sandra Sperling of North Olmstead, O., five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, and seven step-great-grandchildren.

Don has chosen to make an anatomical gift of his body to The Ohio State University College of Medicine. A memorial services honoring his life will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2014 in the Trinity Lutheran Church, 275 N. Lisbon Street, Carrollton with Rev. J. Andrew Riggs officiating. A reception in the church social hall will follow the service. His ashes will then be placed in the Leavittsville Cemetery. The Baxter-Gardner Funeral Home at Sherrodsville is handling arrangements. The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Carroll County 1040 Trump Road N.W. Suite B Carrollton, O. 44615.
