Surviving at the time of his death, in addition to his father, were his wife, Dorothy Shanholtz Black; 1 son, Alan C. Black of North Carolina; one daughter, Myra S. Black Clay (since married an Elkins); one granddaughter, Nikki Clay, 6 brothers, James, Dwight, Ralph, Melvin, Billy and Michael Freer; and one sister, Carolyn Black Bates (since married a Miller).
