BETTY W. (VASTA) ABATE

Betty W. Abate, who worked for Bell Aircraft Co. during World War II and worked many years as a waitress, died Friday (Feb. 26, 1999) in Niagara Geriatrics Center. She was 97.
The former Betty Vasta was born in Adrian, Pa., and lived most recently on Cedar Avenue. She also had lived on Whitney Avenue.
Mrs. Abate worked from 1950 to 1978 as a waitress at Louis' Restaurant on Falls Street and then worked for the Niagara Club.
She was a member of the Golden Agers of Niagara Towers.
Mrs. Abate loved dancing and enjoyed baking. Family members said she loved to entertain.
Her husband, John Abate, died in 1965.
Survivors include a son, Frank M. of Durham, N.C.; a sister, Jessie Parone; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1413 Pine Ave., with prayers at 8:45 in Spallino-Amigone Funeral Home, 1300 Pine Ave.
Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
