LaVada Mary Akridge was born on August 18, 1923 in Bird City, Kansas to Louis Alfred Page and Erma Mary Spatz. She met J. L. Akridge in Greeley, Colorado while attending college classes. She married him on June 4, 1954 in Bird City and moved to Texas. She graduated from Pan American College on August 26, 1955 with a Bachelor of Arts. She and J.L. resided in Hempstead, San Saba, and Burnet before they moved to Georgetown, Texas on July 13, 1968 where they built their house at 1611 Mimosa. LaVada resided there until 2015. She began her school teaching career in Kansas at the age of 17 after graduating high school in country schools. She taught in several school systems, but taught second grade and remedial reading at Georgetown. Both J.L. and LaVada attended First Baptist Church in Georgetown. LaVada enjoyed gardening, flower arranging, reading, cooking, and traveling. She used her artistic abilities to paint furniture, light fixtures, the interior house and cabinets, recover furniture, sew draperies, bedspreads, and clothes. Cindy remembers her spending hours making beautiful bulletin boards for her students and both parents gardening at their house.

LaVada was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and her brother Dennis Alfred Page.

She is survived by her daughter Lucinda (Cindy) Mary Girdner, her husband Steven Girdner (Tyler), Miss Catherine Ann Akridge (Dallas), Shela Page Reilley (Colorado), and Sherri Cork (Kansas).
LaVada passed away on January 7, 2020 and was buried on January 16, 2020 with Cindy and Steve Girdner attending her burial at Hillcrest Cemetery in Temple, Texas.
