Shelton – Birdella J. Stevens 93, of Shelton died Thursday, Nov 30, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 11a.m. Monday at the Shelton United Methodist Church. The Rev. John Ewton will officiate. Burial will be in the Shelton Cemetery. No visitations are planned. Memorials are suggested to the church or the Shelton Emergency Unit.

Mrs. Stevens was born June 21, 1907 to George and Sylvia (Walker) Dawson. She grew up and attended school in Shelton, where she graduated in 1924. She attended Hastings College, Chadron State College and Kearney State Teachers College where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree and lifetime teacher's certificate. Her name also appeared as an outstanding teacher in "Who's Who of Teachers of America."

She married Rodney Stevens on March 8, 1938, in Shelton. The couple lived in western Nebraska where she taught school. They also lived in eastern Colorado before moving back to Shelton in 1946, where he farmed and she taught school. She taught for 33 years and 20 years were in Shelton and she retired in 1973.
She was a member of the Methodist Church, Rebekah Lodge of Shelton, and the Nebraska Teacher's Association.
Survivors include one son, Robert of St. Louis, MO.; two daughters, Marilynn and Marjorie; three sisters, Ida Mae Morley of Hillsboro, OR; Dorothy Wagner of Clovis, CA; and Georgia "June" Stutsman of Redding, CA; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; two sons, George, in infancy, and Richard.
