Marlene was born on October 16, 1936, in Minonk, IL, daughter of Edward Henry and Neva Rachel Oltman Seggerman. She married Barney Barnard on April 28, 1957 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Flanagan. She is survived by one daughter, Melissa, Pontiac, and one brother, Jeff Seggerman, Chenoa. Her parents and Barney preceded her in death.

Marlene graduated from Flanagan High School in 1954. She worked for many years for Livingston County in the Housekeeping Department. She also managed the Winston Churchill Apartment Complex during the time she lived there.

Marlene loved to worship. Having been confirmed at St. John's in Flanagan, the church had special significance to her. She developed early friendships there who remained long time friends. She later joined First Lutheran Church in Pontiac and grew to love the people there also.

Her strong faith was evidenced by her devoted care for her daughter, Melissa, who had special needs. She cared for her in the home for as long as possible. Finally, at the age of 10 12 years, she had to admit her to the Fox Center in Dwight and later to the Martin Luther Home in Pontiac where she could be cared for by others, always under Marlene's close supervision. Although her marriage ended after several years, Barney always shared in the care of their daughter.

Marlene's trademark was her smile. She loved people. As your friend, she always raised your spirits by telling you how the Good Lord was taking care of her. In this way, she was a witness of her faith to many. Melissa was the joy of her life. Marlene will be greatly missed by all but especially dear Melissa.
