BROWN - In Boston, May 6, John J., beloved son of the late Robert and Bridget (Cavanaugh) , Father of Michael and Jeffrey Brown of New York, brother of Agnes Coyne of Roxbury, Sarah Murphy of Connecticut, and the late Elizabeth Carson and Mary Marshall. Funeral from the J. J. Good and Sons Funeral Home, 336 Dudley St., Roxbury, Thursday, May 10 and 8 a.m., Funeral Mass will be said in St. Patrick's Church at 9 o'clock. Relatives and friends invited to attend. Visiting hours Tuesday, 7-9 pm, Wednesday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. (BOSTON GLOBE, MAY 8, 1973)

Note - Bridget (Cavanaugh) Brown's maiden name has variously in documents been spelled Kavanagh, Keaveney, Keaveny and Cavanagh. There is no determination which is correct.

Also, though it may have been knowledge that John had two children in his time, it was not until recently that living family members ( nephews and nieces of the next generation) learned of this from John's uncovered obituary. It was also thought he was a lifelong bachelor by those who recall him.

John was nicknamed and called "Jake" by all who knew him. He was said to be a snappy dresser and the best baseball player around.

- Paul Coyne aka Noncentz (Jake's grand-nephew)
