Judith Eugenia Chambers (nee Nelson), 72, passed peacefully surrounded by family on May 17, 2014.

Judy was born in Chicago, the daughter of the late Andrew and Evelyn Ellison. She and her husband of 48 years, Norman raised their family first in Logan Square, then Oak Park, and finally moved to Antioch upon retirement. She spent her career as an elementary school teacher in the Chicago Public Schools. She was passionate about learning and even in retirement continued to both give and take art lessons. Judy's artwork was featured in various publications and shows in recent years.

A lifelong reader, Judy understood the power of the written word. Reading was a joy. Her tastes were wide-ranging and reflected an intelligent and thoughtful nature. Judy was also an avid letter writer. She took great pride in her penmanship. Her letters to her grandchildren were insightful and beautiful.

Judy also loved her time at Paddock Lake. It was an opportunity for her to see her children and grandchildren play in the sand and water on sunny summer days. Judy's greatest joy was family. Paddock Lake was a focal point for that joy for the last 30 years. 4th of July at "the cottage" was synonymous with family and fun.

Judy's favorite color was red and the family has requested that those attending her services please wear an article of red clothing to honor Judy's memory.

Judy is survived by her hero and husband of 48 years and the lights of her life, her children. She is lovingly remembered by her legacy, her grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Les Nelson and her sister Jill Nelson-Speroff.

She was preceded in death by her parents and by her brother Jack Nelson and sister Jane Scarsi.

Visitation will be Tuesday, May 27, 2014 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Ringa Funeral Home, 122 S. Milwaukee Ave. (Rt. 83), Lake Villa, IL 60046 A memorial service will begin at 7:00 pm that same night.
