Funeral Rites to be Conducted Thursday for Neillsville Man
Neillsville - August Holtz, 76, a resident of Neillsville for more than 50 years, died at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Leroy Allen, after a long illness.
Funeral services will be held at the Jaster Funeral Home, where the body is lying in state, at 1:45 p.m. Thursday, followed by rites at Zion Reformed Church at 2 p.m. The Rev. N. J. Dechant will officiate and burial will take place in the Neillsville cemetery.
August Herman Holtz was born in Germany on Aug. 6, 1867, and came to the United States when he was 18. He was married to Augusta Johanna Retzlaff at Washburn, Bayfield County, on Nov. 19, 1892. They came to a farm near Neillsville more than 40 years ago and later moved into the city. Mr. Holtz was a blacksmith and mason.
Mrs. Holtz died on Oct. 6, 1942. Both were members of Zion Reformed Church.
Surviving are seven children, 18 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. The children are Mrs. William (Emma) Bey, Marshfield; Ernest Holtz, Neillsville; Mrs. H. G. (Minnie) Bickel, Milwaukee; Mrs. Leo (Ella) Brickheimer, Marshfield; Mrs. Elmer (Hilda) Hartnagle, Independence; and Walter Holtz, Neillsville. A brother, Gus Holtz, lives at Neillsville. One son died in infancy.
Pallbearers at the rites will be George Larson, Everett Raine, Bernard Dodte, Herman Gloff, John Krejci, and Ed Gault.
