IN SOUTH CARVER, Feb. 15 - Herbert F. Atwood, 82, husband of Lucy (Shurtleff) Atwood, a retired cranberry grower, died last Saturday at his home on Tremont street, South Carver, after a short illness.
Born in Middleboro, the son of the late John S. and Susan (Hamlin) Atwood.
Mr. Atwood was a member of numerous cranberry growers' associations. He was also a member of the Wareham - Odd Fellows Lodge, Carver Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War and the Cape Cod Canal Sportsmen's Club.
In addition to his widow, Mr. Atwood is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Earl (Charlotte M.) Ware of Carver and Mrs. Donald H. (Eunice) Bailey of South Carver; three sons, Carleton of Plymouth, Roy of New York City, and Davis Atwood of Norton; a brother, Chester E. Atwood of Wareham; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. from Beaman's Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert F. Shippee, minister of the Memorial Methodist Church, officiating.
Burial was in Center Cemetery, Carver.
