=============
Suffolk, Va., Feb. 18th-William Thomas Duke, one of the oldest and best-known citizens of Nansemond County, died last night at his home near Magnolia, in the 80th year of his age. He is survived by a widow and one sister, Miss Nancy Duke of Portsmouth, Va.
Mr. Duke was a charter member of the Suffolk Christian Church, which was organized in November of 1860.
There is left only one of the charter members of this church, Senator James A. Turrentine of North Carolina.
For the past ten years, Mr. Duke, though an old man, walked in from Magnolia, a distance of three miles, to Sunday school and church services, always regardless of weather conditions.
The funeral services will be conducted from the Christian church on Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock, conducted by Dr. W.W. Staley.

Suggested edit: The April 9th death date is as per his death certificate and also is given in "Amherst County Heritage 1761-1999," Volume 1, p.119. The April 19th death date is from Sudie Rucker Wood's "Rucker Family Genealogy," p.60. Unfortunately, Sudie has numerous other date errors with this particular Rucker family.
