Bertha was the daughter of George and Alice (Lingo) Pittman. She married Clarence Tolbert on July 1, 1905, in Bethesda, Ohio.

She was a 1905 graduate of Bethesda High School. She made a special effort each year to attend the school's Alumni Banquet, her last attendance being in 1977. She was a member of the Bethesda Church of Christ and the Hunter Extension Group.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Tolbert on Mar. 20, 1962.

Her memory will be cherished by her daughters, Mildred and husband Eugene Wickham and Mary Louise and husband Emerson Cross; her sons, George and wife Ellen, Clinton "Pete" and wife Hilda, and Harry "Bob" Tolbert; 12 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.

Grandma was very proud of her heritage. I loved walking around cemeteries with her and talking to her about our genealogy. When I was very young, she and grandpa lived on a farm south of Bethesda, Ohio. I loved helping her in her garden, watching her cook and sew.
