Son of Edwin & Etta M Gee Ashmead

Donald E Ashmeade, 47, of Davenport and formerly of Ottumwa, died Friday at 10:30 a.m. while working at a trailer park construction site in Pleasantville.

Born Oct 20, 1928, in Jefferson County, to Edwin and Etta Gee Ashmeade, he was a World War II Navy veteran. He married Mary Carnes Aug. 22, 1964, in Ottumwa. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Michael, at home and Ronald; one daughter, Deanna Ashmeade, at home; five brothers, Merle of Ottumwa, Ronald of La Mirada, Calif., Jack of Spray, Ore., Robert of Bell, Calif. and Roy of St. Bethlehem, Tenn.; and one sister, Deloris Taylor of St. Bethlehem, Tenn.

Services will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Chapel with Rev. Vernon Rayphole of the First Foursquare Church officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery and the casket will be closed at the beginning of the service. Pallbearers will be Peter Stigol, Rickey Carnes, Frank Rupe, Rick Carnes and Joe and Owney Higdon.
