Motor racing driver. Born in Milan, Italy, Baghetti made a unique contribution to Formula 1 - he won his first ever F1 race. Son of a wealthy industrialist, he began racing production cars in 1955. He did not appear to have made much of an impact in motor sport until the 1961 season when he won two non-championship F1 races at Posillipo and Syracuse in a Ferrari. He made his debut in the French GP and won after all of the factory Ferraris ran into trouble. He raced in two further GPs that year setting fastest lap at Monza but retiring from both. After four more races with Ferrari in 1962 he made a bad career move and moved to the ATS team. After a disastrous time, he left ATS to race an old BRM for Scuderia Centro Sud plus other assorted cars in other classes. His days of glory were brief so he retired from motor racing in 1968 and started a new career as a car and fashion photographer and publisher. He died of cancer at the age of 60.
