Stewart (Stewie) Hollen, age 78, of 2129 S. 23rd Street, Manitowoc, died peacefully Thursday morning, May 9, 2013 at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc.
He was born on October 5, 1934 in Manitowoc, son of the late Clayton and Rose (Schroeder) Hollen. Stewie was a graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School, Class of 1953. On October 10, 1964 he married the former Sandra Reif at St. Paul Catholic Church, Manitowoc. Stewie was employed with Manitowoc Shipbuilding Company for 33 years and then with AmeriQuip Corp. in New Holstein for 9 years until his retirement in 1997. He was a member of Union Local 443 when he was employed with Manitowoc Shipbuilding and a Machinist Union when employed with AmeriQuip. Stewie was also a life member of the Manitowoc Senior Center.
Survivors include his wife: Sandy Hollen, Manitowoc; three sons: Randy Hollen, Manitowoc, Scott Hollen, Gleason, WI, Jeff Hollen, Manitowoc; two daughters and a son-in-law: Margie & Kevin Van Sleet, Manitowoc, Tina Nething, Manitowoc; five grandchildren: Zach Hollen, Ashley Hollen, Robert (Lori) Van Sleet, Brooke (Kevin) Fischer, Brandon Nething; five great grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Stanley & Pat Hollen, Robert & Sandy Hollen, all of Manitowoc; a brother-in-law: Lee Haucke, Two Rivers; and two brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law: Fritz & Lori Reif, Richard Reif and Pat Beaupre, all of Manitowoc. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was also preceded in death by a sister: Joan Haucke; and three brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Ray & Sherry Kiel, Jack Beaupre, Bob & Jean Heinemann and Audrey Reif.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at St. John's United Church of Christ, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Service will be the Rev. Dr. James Klein with burial at Knollwood Memorial Gardens, town of Kossuth.
The family will greet relatives and friends at The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday, May 13, 2013. Friends may also call Tuesday morning at St. John's United Church of Christ, Manitowoc, from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.
The family wishes to thank Holy Family Memorial Medical Center for their compassionate care given to Stewie.
Stewie was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed spending many years at his log cabin in Gleason, WI which he built with the help of family and friends. After his retirement other hobbies included woodworking and feeding the squirrels on his deck.
The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
