WHAT IS GOING ON HERE?
If you take these two gravestones at face value, this would appear to be a father and son, with the father dying on the day the son was born, then the son dying on the 100th anniversary of the father's birth.
The odds of that happening would be astronomical, so what I believe we have here is a simple gravestone mistake.
The original grave with the correct dates was broken so a replacement stone was ordered with the date of Oct. 28, 1952 being an error. It should be Oct. 28, 1852, like the original.
HOWEVER - On a recent trip to the cemetery, I could not find either stone, so the mystery continues!
SO, WHO IS THIS PERSON?
Ace is the only Thompson buried in this cemetery. A check of Mississippi census records find an A. C. Thompson, age 8 in the 1860 Federal Census of DeSoto County, MS. This lad was born in Tennessee and lives in the household of A. Boon, a farmer aged 35 years.
No information found in the 1870 Census.
The 1880 Federal Census finds an Ace Thompson, born circa 1852 living in Calhoun County, Miss. His birth state is listed as Alabama, but his father's birthplace is Tennessee. Also in the household are Thomas Thompson, age 25, and Margret Thompson, age 20. They are all single.
No information has been found in the 1900 Federal Census.
(Update: Ace Thompson was the husband of Margrett Alexander. Margrett remarried to a Savage and is buried in Spring Creek Cemetery in Banner.)
