The story of Mary Ann Poehling, written by her kids and included in the Mass program at her funeral.

Mary Ann (Talbert) Poehling was born in Omaha, NE on June 12, 1933. At the age of 8, her family moved to Valley, NE where they became active in St. John's parish. On many occasions, Mary was asked to lead the rosary before Mass. Thus began a life-long dedication to our Blessed Mother.

Somewhere jn her early teens, she met the man who would later become her husband. Bill and Mary began their life-long courtship in high school after she asked him to the "Sadie Hawkins Dance". They have been together ever since.

Mary's first priority was taking care of her family. She helped raise four outstanding children – Margaret, Mike, Anne and Bob. To accomplish this monumental effort, she had to wear a number of hats. She maintained the house with the precision of a 5-Star General. She was the primary source of transport to and from all of the activities her children performed. On occasion, she was the seamstress when one of her children needed something sewn for a play or other activity. Very frequently, she had to play the part of nurse to mend a scratched knee or sprained ankle. She was a dedicated and loving wife, an extremely loving and nurturing mother; and, the most generous person anyone could ever meet.

In addition to raising her four children, Mary served as a loving Grandma to her nine grandchildren, all of whom learned lessons from her that will serve them throughout their lives. Mary was also able to share some bits of wisdom with her first great-child.

Aside from the family, Mary had a number of other interests. She enjoyed serving others through volunteer work, cooking, camping, traveling, playing golf, feeding and watching birds, fishing and attending Nebraska football games with her loving husband.
