Miriam Balo, 96, formerly of Frazeysburg, died Sunday afternoon, October 19, 2008 at Summerville at North Hills, formerly the Inn at North Hills. Mrs. Balo was the Inn's first resident, having lived there nearly twelve years. Miriam Barbara Church Layman Balo was born March 7, 1912 in Brinkhaven, Ohio in Northwest Coshocton County. She was the daughter of the late Lemuel and Ida (Wilson) Church and was a graduate of Warsaw High School. She was also a graduate of Ohio University and was employed as an elementary school teacher in the Newark City Schools for many years.
Mrs. Balo was a member of the Frazeysburg United Methodist Church and was a former member of the Frazeysburg Lions Club, Richvale Grange, the Heisey Collectors Club of America, Review Club and was a world traveler.
Surviving is one daughter, Joan (Bob) Bickle of Zanesville; a step-daughter, Barbara Fulton of Newark; seven grandchildren, including Greg (Penny) Bickle of Frazeysburg and Todd (Kristi) Bickle of Zanesville; two step grandchildren, Debbie Younger and Denise (Todd) Breenton both of Newark; eight great grandchildren; three step great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wilfred Balo, her ex-husband, Tony Layman, her son, David Layman; a sister Mildred Reiss and a brother, Wilson Church.
