In this same news article he encourged the local folks to get out and vote... and gave some of his past employments and qualifcations; "he had served as vice president of the Democracy Club, was President of the International Association of Machinist Local 1446, and a member of the First Baptist Church. Hammack stated that he feels the citizens of Texas City have a right to self government, and he would protest and foster this right, giving all persons an opportunity to express their opinion freely, openly and impartially.

Hammack urges all qualified voters to vote in the April 5 city election in order to exercise this right of self-government."
