Eva Leah Fairchild was born in Chillicothe, October 17th, 1900; passed to rest June 9th, 1922. At the tender age of ten years she was left motherless but grew to a happy young womanhood, a favorite with her young friends. Three and a half years ago she was stricken with an unknown malady and had been an invalid ever since, but bore her great sufferings with remarkable patience and cheerfulness. She was very grateful to her friends and the members of her Sunday school class in particular for their kindly remembrances.
She will be sadly missed by her father and stepmother, who cared for her tenderly and untiringly; her three brothers, Buel, Milford and Lee Roy; and Grandmother Fairchild, who had lived with her from birth; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Her funeral was held Sunday afternoon at the Baptist church of which she was a member and her pastor, Rev. Warren P. Clark, preached a most touching sermon. Six girl companions, Misses Ethel and June Colvin, Gertrude Slattery, Mesdames Poole, Shaffer and Moling acted as pall bearers. The floral offerings were many and beautiful. She was laid to rest beside her mother in Edgewood Cemetery.
“Wisdom and love have ordered all the past,
All shall be blessedness and joy at last.
Cast off the cares that have so long oppressed,
Rest, dear one. Sweetly rest!”
