W. H. Baker, Physicist, Dead at 43

Mechanicville - Winfield H. Baker, 43, of 290 South Main Ave., Albany, a native of Mechanicville and son of W. Scott Baker of this city, died yesterday at Albany Hospital following a long illness.

He was born in Mechanicville July 21, 1917, was educated in the Mechanicville elementary schools, and was a graduate [Valedictorian] of Mechanicville High School. He received his Bachelor of Science degree at Middlebury College and his Master of Science degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute at Troy.

Mr. Baker was employed as a physicist by the New York State Department of Health at Albany.

Besides his father, he is survived by his wife, Ruth Leighton Baker, and two sons, Daniel and Scott Baker of Albany.

A vesper service will be held at Calvary Methodist Church, Albany, Friday at 3:30 p.m. with the Rev. David A. Giles, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Hudson View Cemetery, Mechanicville.

Friends may call at the Frederick Funeral Home, 16 Manning Square, Albany, Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributations may be made to the memorial fund of Calvary Methodist Church.
