Mrs. Velma Elizabeth Slaughter, 88, of Shiloh Road, Esom Hill, Ga., passed away Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2006. She was born Sept. 7, 1917 in Gadsden, Ala. and was a member of the Church of Christ of Borden Springs, Ala. She was the co-owner of Slaughter's Grocery for over 60 years prior to her retirement. Mrs. Slaughter was preceded in death by her husband, Amos Slaughter; father, Henry Crawford; mother, Minnie Martin-Crawford; son, Billy Slaughter; two brothers, three sisters and three grandchildren. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Jackie and Anita Slaughter of Esom Hill; daughters, Shirley Slaughter Love of Cedartown, Pat Slaughter Brown of Bowden and Connie Slaughter Brown of South Carolina; sister, Jeanette Hyde of Anniston, Ala. and 11 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and five great, great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services were conducted Friday, Feb. 17, 2006 at 2 p.m. in the Shiloh Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Wright officiating. Interment followed in the Shiloh Cemetery. Pallbearers included Donny Howard, Jason Robinson, Robin Astin, Danny Roesler, Charles Wheeler, Robin Cheatwood, Wayne Edwards and Mike Slaughter. The Lester C.
