Joseph A. Dress, 63, died at his home, 2496 Washington Street, at 10:30 Friday morning, after a five years' illness.
He was born Oct. 23, 1873 in the Duchy of Luxemburg, Europe, came to this country in 1889, and has lived in Dubuque since. On Sept. 14, 1897, he was married to Katherine Schroeder at the Sacred Heart Church in Dubuque. He was a member of that parish. For the past several years he has been employed at the Iowa Coffin Co.
Survivors are his wife, eight daughters, Mrs. Edward (Josephine) Maeder, Mrs. Leo (Viola) Andresen, Mrs. Harry (Dorothy) Murphy, Mrs. Leo (Mildred) Wanger, Mrs. Charles (Marie) Clancy, Mrs. Arthur (Hilda) Schroeder, Mrs. Kenneth (Lucille) Elliott, and Mrs. Clarence (Mathilda) Naslund; two sons, Harry and Leonard Dress; three sisters, Mrs. William (Marguerite) Fritsche, Mrs. Leo (Mary) Tiefel, and Mrs. Susan Schmidt, and 20 grandchildren.
After Saturday noon, the body may be viewed at the home. Funeral services will be Monday morning from the residence to Sacred Heart Church, with burial in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
