MONSIGNOR J. WAYNE HAYES died while vacationing with his niece in Alexandria, Egypt.

He was born in Salinas, CA.

At the age of 13 he left home to enter the seminary. He was ordained into the priesthood December 20, 1959, in Rome, Italy.

Monsignor served at St. Helen's Catholic Church, the Newman Center and Our Lady of Victory Catholic in Fresno.

He also was the administrator St. Lucy's in Fowler.

At the time of his death he was pastor of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Los Banos.

For 27 years he held various positions in the Chancery office of the Diocese of Fresno.

During his 46 years as a priest Monsignor devoted his life to serving God, his parishioners, family and friends. He aided everyone he met through the circle of life.

Monsignor was Chaplain to the Knights of Columbus, Young Ladies Institute, Altar Society and the Italian Catholic Federation. He was involved in many more organizations.

He was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Selma Hayes and brothers-in-law, Gordon Lumsden and Ed Schmidt.

Monsignor is survived by his sisters, Diane (Gil and her husband Joe of Mi Wouk Village, and Patty Lumsden of Fresno; nieces, Jeanine Schmidt of Pleasanton, Kristin Lumsden of Fresno and Karyn Gil of Sacramento.

He is also survived by nephews, Tim Schmidt of Glendale, and Ed Schmidt and his wife Jane; and great-nephew, Eddie Schmidt of Tres Pinos.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Los Banos on Wednesday, February 22, 2006, at 11:00 a.m.

Burial will be at St. Peter's Cemetery on Thursday, February 23, 2006, at 11:00 a.m.

A Memorial Mass will be held at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Fresno on Friday, February, 24, 2006, at 11:00 a.m.
