He arrived in Vietnam on May 18 1972 where he was assigned to and served with Sub Unit 1, 1st ANGLICO, FMFPac.
On July 1, Cpl Parton, a member of a spotter team for supporting naval gunfire, was wounded by enemy rifle fire during contact with enemy forces. Evacuated to the 95th Evacuation Hospital in Da Nang he succumbed to the injuries he had sustained.
