From the 3/29/1901 Van Wert Times:
"W.P. Davis formerly Deputy Sheriff of this county died Tuesday morning at the home of his father in Pleasant township. Deceased has suffered for a number of years from consumption until death finally came to his relief. He made two trips to the west in hope of receiving some benefit but finally came home that he might spend his remaining days among his friends. No man ever lived that possessed more loyal friends than did Billie Davis for he possessed those rare qualities of mind and heart that cemented strong friendships. He was a faithful member of the Maccabee and Improved Order of Red Men's lodges and those orders had charge of the funeral which occurred at the Baptist church yesterday at 2 p.m. The interment took place at Woodland cemetery to which the remains were followed by a large concourse of friends."
