VERONA – Doris Marie “Pookie” Kirk, 45, died Sunday, Oct. 22, 2006, at the North Mississippi Medical Center. She was born July 2, 1961, to Clytee Shackelford Kirk and the late Oscar Kirk. She attended Jackson State University and received her B.S. degree in broadcast journalism from Mississippi State University. A talented photographer and graphic designer, she was the owner and operator of Doris Designs. She enjoyed fishing, quail hunting, bargain shopping, bowling, playing the piano and computer browsing.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Zion M.B. Church in Verona with the Rev. Donnell Nichols officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Agnew and Sons Funeral Home of Verona is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her mother, Clytee Shackelford Kirk of Verona; one brother, Wayne Huff of Roseville, Mich.; three sisters, Idella Crawford (Rev. Sam) of Woodland, Vanessa Kirk-Brown and Cassandra Kirk, both of Decatur, Ga.; a special aunt, Dorothy Collier; a special uncle, Joe Shackelford (Sally); a special nephew, Aundray Shackelford (Shannon).
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Mary and John Wesley Shackelford.
