That is incorrect as his mother Sarah "Sallie" Fry Abernathy remarried to Richard C. Abernathy abt 1848 and John is listed in Giles County, TN in the 1850 census and then in Greene County, MO 1860 census. His mother remarried to Charles Carlton in Mar 1861 and they all moved to TX soon afterwards.
