The funeral of Mrs. Annie Virginia McComas, widow of Henry A. McComas, who died at Blue Ridge Summit on Wednesday night from a stroke of apoplexy, will be held at the Church of the Transfiguration at Blue Ridge Summit today. The funeral cortege will leave following this service for Hagerstown, where further services will be held in St. John’s Episcopal Church; burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. McComas was born in Washington County, Maryland, the daughter of William and Elizabeth (Nobel) Smith on February 3, 1843. She was prominent in social and civic work in Hagerstown, where she lived for many years. For 35 years, Mrs. McComas spent her summer months at Blue Ridge Summit, where she became associated with various social organizations. She was widely known in the resort section. Her husband died in March, 1919.

In recent years she had been spending the winter months with her son, the Rev. J.P. McComas, D.D., vicar of St. Paul’s Chapel, Trinity Parish, NY City. She also spent part of each spring and autumn with her other son, F.W. McComas, Esq., in Baltimore. She usually arrived at Blue Ridge Summit about June 1 and remained there until October.

In her younger days, Mrs. McComas took great interest in the life of the U.S. Army at Carlisle and Washington, where relatives were closely connected. Church work always occupied a great portion of Mrs. McComas’ time. When living in Hagerstown, she was closely associated with the St. John’s Episcopal Church, and worked untiringly in its behalf. In the summer she attended the Church of the Transfiguration, at Blue Ridge Summit.
