Departed this life on Saturday morning last, after a short illness, Mrs. MARGARET KENNEDY, wife of Mr. John Kennedy, merchant of this town, and only daughter of Mr. John Wagoner, in the 34th year of her age.

In this dispensation of Divine Providence, society has to lament the loss of one of its most amiable members, whose many virtues endeared her to all who knew her, the loss to her family and her friends is irreparable, and the only consolation left them is, that her well founded principles, her life of piety, an d her calm resignation in health, are rewarded in the enjoyment of her God -- While we submit with reverence to the Almighty disposer of human events, who "maketh darkness his pavilion," and mourn the loss of a departed friend, let us endeavor to imitate her virtues.

Six bodies, relatives of the family of Thomas Kennedy, Maryland's pioneer poet, author and statesmen were exhumed at the old Presbyterian graveyard, rear of the First Christian Church yesterday and reinterred in the family lot at Rose Hill Cemetery by C.M. Suter & Sons, undertakers. The bodies were all in a fine state of preservation considering that some of the persons have been dead 100 years. A coincidence was that Hugh Kennedy, son of John and Margaret Kennedy, died on May 12, 1813 - just 100 years ago yesterday. The bodies taken up yesterday were:

MARGARET KENNEDY, died May 30, 1818
JOHN KENNEDY, Born June 3, 1767 - Died April 27, 1847
HUGH KENNEDY, Died May 12, 1813
JOHN WAGNER, Died Nov. 24, 1831, aged 83 years
His wife, SARAH WAGNER, Died July 13, 1832, paged 81 years
JAMES FERGUSON, Died March 24, 1832, aged 79 years

The bodies of Thomas Kennedy, wife and daughter will be taken up within the next several days and reinterred in Rose Hill Cemetery.

The movement for the erection of a monument to Thomas Kennedy by members of the Jewish race, stated by I.S. Kahn, is growing. The Kennedy graves are near the fence of the graveyard lot. Vines and weeds abound there as elsewhere.

Watkins & Minnick are taking up the bodies in the old Presbyterian graveyard for the purpose of removal. The Christian church now owns the lot. They have in all 103 to take up and a good many that are not marked. For instance from one lot, that occupied by the Boults and Maynards, there were 13 bodies and only one stone. The remains of the late Thos. A. Boult still bore traces of the great long beard that characterized him in life.

Two of the bodies were curious in that they were buried in cast iron caskets, a close imitation of the Egyptian mummy case and with a plate screwed over the face. One body was that of a small infant in a tiny little case, which must have been handsome when first cast and the other was that of a 16-year-old boy, buried in 1854, William Crawford Thompson, son of Victor and Margaret Thompson. Mr. Thompson being a druggest here.

The casket was very heavy and the shape of the body. One was full of water and that made it heavier. Few people about here ever saw the like. The casket was with a drapery effect for the covering.

All the graves were deep in the ground and had heavy stones laid on the coffin lids. The men opened the grave fo the Rev. Dr. Farouhar, a Scottish divine, who was buried in 1822 at the age of 93 years. His teeth were cound. His remains and that of his family to to Mt. Joy, Pa. Near him lay Nathaniel Martin, also aged 93, and his wife, aged 97. Numerous ministers were about, some from Scotland, some from New York and some from Philadelphia. In some of the graves no trace of the caskets were found, only the bones. Many of the names have faded from among our people, such as Sturr, Magoffin, Pott, Biays, Ferguson, Robertson, Tusten, Ogilby, Hagerman, Leeds and so forth.

The bodies go to Rose Hill and mostly are cared for by the descendants.
