Sam Schneidman, 81, of 2168 Wilmar Court died at 9:55 a.m. Thursday (July 24, 1997) in his home. He was a well-known local attorney and owned the Schneidman Distributing Co. with his brother, Herman.
Born Aug. 10, 1915, in Quincy, Mr. Schneidman was a son of David and Esther Rebecca Scheinman Schneidman.
He married Evelyn Genewitch July 6, 1952, in Peoria. She survives.
Mr. Schneidman was a graduate of Quincy High School, attended Quincy College, earned a bachelor of science degree from the University of Illinois and a juris doctorate degree from the University of Illinois. He served in the Army as a lieutenant in counter intelligence from 1942 to 1946.
Mr. Schneidman was a member of B'nai Sholom Temple, Adams County Bar Association, Lambert Lodge 659 AF&AM, Quincy Consistory, Ansar Shrine Temple, Boy Scouts of America, American Legion and the National Counter Intelligence Corps. He was past president of the Mart Heinen Club, Twin Oaks Club and Quincy Shrine Club.
Mr. Schneidman was a former member of the Illinois Parole and Pardon Board and the Quincy Water Works Board. He had served as co-chairman of the Quincy College Annual Fund Drive, was chairman of the Adams County Chapter of the American Red Cross and had served as president of Associated Beer Distributors of Illinois.
Survivors also include two sons, David R. Schneidman of New York City and Edward J. Schneidman of Chicago; and three grandchildren, Shira R., Nili A. and Alon J. Schneidman, all of New York City.
Graveside services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday in Valley of Peace Cemetery in Quincy by Michael Saul.
Visitation will be held 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to B'nai Sholom Temple or Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children.
