According to his Death Certificate, Eldridge Jr is the son of Eldridge Gerry Doubleday Sr and Mary (Love) Doubleday. An auto tire dealer living at 1503 Cedar Lane in Nashville, he was 32 years old and the husband of Sarah "Sue" (Pickard) Eldridge (1915-2003) when he died on July 28, 1948 at Saint Thomas Hospital of a gastric hemorrhage due to cirrhosis of the liver
