Calista Hopkins, daughter of William G and Elizabeth (Frost) Hopkins, born Carmel, NY, Dec 20, 1816. Married Carmel,NY on Feb 7, 1839, by Rev George Todd, Reuben D Baldwin, b Dec 25, 1809; d Dec 27, 1882, at Lake Mahopac, NY.

1) Augusta Baldwin, b Carmel, NY Dec 25, 1840; d 1856
2) Irene Cole Baldwin Appel b Carmel, NY 1843
3) Laura Baldwin Biven, b Carmel, NY, Apr 23, 1850

Calista attended the district school until 14 years of age and then became a pupil at Quaker Hill Seminary and finally became a teacher there. After marriage, lived in Southeast New York for six years. Her husband built a large hotel on the shores of Lake Mahopac which would accommodate four hundred guests and they lived there 25 years. It was destroyed by fire Oct 5, 1869, with the loss of over $80,000 and the insurance policy expired the day before. Mr Baldwin then started a bank, and was Postmaster, but losses in Wall Street affected his mine and hastened his death, after which, she went to live with her mother in Hyde Park, NY. She was 40 years a consistent member of the Mahopac Falls Presbyterian Church.
