Joseph M. Manning, 87, of Mashpee, formerly of Weymouth and Dorchester, passed away peacefully at the JML Care Center in Falmouth on August 13, 2014. He was the beloved husband of Mary (O’Connell) Manning, the son of the late Sally (Comella) Manning and twin brother of the late John P. Manning. Joe graduated from High School of Commerce in Boston serving as class president. Following his education, Joe enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in Washington D.C. After completing his service, he was called back to serve in the Korean Conflict on the U.S.S. Oriskany. Joe had a prosperous career working in the beer industry while owning and operating a popular bowling venue known as the Weymouth Landing Recreation Center. In addition to being a successful businessman, Joe was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son and brother.
Along with his devoted wife Mary, to whom he was married for 60 wonderful years, he is survived by his 3 loving children and their families: Susan Clement and husband Richard of Cotuit; Paul Manning and wife Suzanne of Mashpee; and Lori Hennessy and husband Mark of Plymouth. He held a very special place in the hearts of his 6 grandchildren: Rachael, Natalie, and Rick Clement; Heather Manning; and Katie and Lauren Hennessy. He will be missed dearly by all who loved him.
Visitation will be held Sunday August 17, 2014 from 1 PM to 4 PM at the Chapman Cole and Gleason Funeral Home on 74 Algonquin Ave, (Rte 151) in Mashpee. A funeral mass will be celebrated at Christ the King Church, 3 Job’s Fishing Rd, Mashpee on Monday August 18, 2014 at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at 12:45 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Joseph to a charity of one’s choice.
