Ralph W.H. Schmidt, age 89, a resident of the Manitowoc Health Care Center, formerly of County Hwy V, Mishicot, passed away Thursday, November 19, 1998, at his residence.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 21, 1998, at St. Peter’s Ev. Lutheran Church, Mishicot. Rev. Daniel Drews will officiate with burial in Knollwood Memorial Garden Cemetery, town of Kossuth.

Ralph was born June 11, 1909, in Mishicot, son of the late Otto and Caroline Blum Schmidt. He has been a lifelong area resident. He was a graduate of St. John’ Lutheran School, Two Rivers, where he was confirmed. He married the former Mildred Brandenburg on September 6, 1930, at St. John’ Lutheran Church, Two Rivers. Mr. Schmidt was a dairy farmer for many years and later worked at Mirro as a fireman and retired from there in 1974. He sold insurance for the Mishicot Town Mutual Insurance Company for 42 years. He and his wife Mildred were instrumental in forming the Senior Citizens of Mishicot and served as volunteers for many events. He was a member of St. Peter’s Ev. Lutheran Church, where he served as trustee for many years. He was a member of Magic and served as a volunteer for many years for the Meals on Wheels program.

Survivors include his loving wife, Mildred; two daughters and sons-in-law, Ruth Ann and Ervin Monk, Two Rivers, Joyce and Tom Miller, Green Bay; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Lloyd and Linda Schmidt, Goldendale, Wash., Wilbert Schmidt; one son-in-law, William Schlegel, Oklahoma; one daughter-in-law, Marilyn Jergenson, Two Rivers; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews also survive. He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Hazel Schlegel; an infant son, Ralph Jr.; one brother, Roy Schmidt; two sisters, Erma Beeck and Gertrude Blank.

Friends may call after 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter’s Ev. Lutheran Church until the time of service. There will be no Friday evening visitation.

A memorial fund has been established for the Manitowoc Lutheran High School and for St. Peter’s Ev. Lutheran Church.

The Lambert Funeral Home of Mishicot is assisting the family with arrangements.
