Richard D. Sleep, age 75, of Manitowoc died on Saturday, May 31, 2008.
He is survived by his wife: Jane; two daughters: Cindy (Rod) Blohm and Sandy (Terry) Spitzer; three sons: Jeffrey (Terry) Edgar, Kevin (Amy) Edgar and Richard (Lori) Sleep; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and special friends, Marty and Darlene VanLishout of Clarks Mills also survive.
Richard was proud of the fact that he held a private pilot's license and a 100-ton vessel captain's license. He served Manitowoc County in various law enforcement positions for more than 15 years. Dick started Silver Creek Nurseries Inc. and was the developer of an entire product category in the sporting goods industry with the Bionic Ear and related products for listening enhancement. After retiring from Silver Creek, he operated a successful fishing charter business out of Two Rivers for more than 10 years.
Per his request, there will be no funeral services, but there will be a time of visitation on Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home of Manitowoc.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any desired remembrances honor his love of animals with gifts to the Lakeshore Humane Society in his name.
