They moved to Jacksonville, Calhoun County, Alabama, where he was a successful merchant until the Civil War began. He was a Sergeant for Company G, 10th Alabama Infantry Regiment until his death.
He was wounded in the leg at Augusta Kentucky near the Ohio River. He leg was amputated, and he died from complications.
