James A. "Al" Blauser, 98, of Seneca, died at 11:25 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 17, 2014, at his home. He was born on April 26, 1916, in Hampton Station, Pinegrove Township, to the late Albert Lewis and Nora Belle (Benninger) Blauser.

He attended the Gilson School in Coal Hill and Oil City High School, served in the U.S. Army Air Corps, was a member of the Oil City American Legion, James Henderson Post 32, and active with the Oil City Boy Scouts where he served as a scout leader. He was an active member of Heckathorn United Methodist Church in Seneca, and a former member of the Hasson Heights Presbyterian Church where he served as a trustee; and a former member of the Hill City United Methodist Church, until its closing. He was well-known to many within his church families and throughout the community as "Pap" or "Pops." Al enjoyed hunting, fishing, mowing, and gardening, and generously shared his garden crops with family and friends. He was well-known for his skill in small engine repairs and chainsaw sharpening. In his earlier years, he worked for the Ramage Oil Company in Reno, C.P.T. in Franklin, served as a general foreman for the Asplundh Tree Company twenty-nine years, worked in the custodial department for the Oil City School District ten years, and he worked part time for Mooney Chemical Company in Reno. Throughout many of his working years, he was also a partner and an operator in a tree-trimming company.

On June 12, 1936, in Good Hope Lutheran Church in Oil City, he married Anna Grace Dayton, who preceded him in death on Oct. 19, 2003.

Surviving are five daughters, Betty Jo "BJ" Quillen of Oil City, Janet Marie Lloyd and husband, Carlisle, of Trafford, Carol Ann Karns and husband, Kenneth, of Seneca, Susan Elaine King of Chandler, AZ, and Debra Lynn Grove and husband, Peter, of Oil City; eleven grandchildren, Mark and Scott Godfrey, Sharon Brauer, Rebecca Braun, Robert Wenzler, Kevin Fox, Kerri Ann (Fox) Baughman, Eli King, Amanda Mott, Renee Miller and Isaac Grove; and numerous step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, including a special niece, M. Louise Giddings of Erie. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three children, Marion Jean Blauser, James Lewis Blauser and Kathleen Jane Fox; a son-in-law, Richard Quillen; his brother, Vance Blauser; and his sister, Arlene Marion Byers.

Services will be at Heckathorn United Methodist Church at 11 am Wednesday with Rev. Rob Kifer officiating. Interment will be in Heckathorn Cemetery in Seneca, where full military honors will be accorded by the VETS Honor Guard.
