He was married first to Mary F. Lewis 5 Jan 1860 in Bastrop Co., Texas. They had two daughters, Alice and Cassie Farmer.
He married to Victoria C. Howard 4 May 1867. Their children include Mollie, Charlie, Rebecca, Ben, Harriett and Alexander Judson Farmer.

He was killed by Samuel Sampson Howard, who was tried & hanged for the murder.

In 1880, all of his children were living in the home of his brother, Jack. Victoria was living with her sister, Maranda Howard Dodgen, in Blanco Co., Texas in 1880.
