Robert A. Hersey, 66, of rural Elkhart Lake, died Monday morning, August 18, 2014 at St. Vincent Hospital, Green Bay. He was born September 12, 1947 in Minnesota, son of the late William Henry & Olive Mae (Redner) Hersey. Robert was a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving his country as a Flying Crew Chief during the Vietnam War. On May 25, 1986 he married Cheryl Vogel in Tarpon Springs, Florida. He was a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Office in Florida, retiring after 20 years of service. He moved to the Kiel area where he was employed with the Kiel Area School District and then at Lakeland College until 2012 when he retired again. After his retirement he kept busy working part-time with the Village of Elkhart Lake. Robert enjoyed the time he could spend with his family, especially cooking for everyone. He also enjoyed watching baseball and fishing with his boys. Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Cheryl, four children; Heather (Jim) Brown, Brookfield, Jacob Hersey (Fiance, Katie Klauck), rural Elkhart Lake, Jedidiah Hersey and Parker Hersey, both of rural Elkhart Lake, he was the proud papa of Jaxon Brown. He is further survived by two brothers, William Hersey, AL, John (Cheryl) Hersey, FL, sister-in-law, Karen Breunig, Waterford, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, James Hersey. Funeral services for Robert will be held at 6:30pm on Friday, August 22, 2014 at St. Peter's United Church of Christ, 424 Fremont St., Kiel with Deacon Pat Knier officiating. Burial will take place in Schleswig Cemetery, Town of Schleswig (Rockville). Family and friends may call at the church on Friday from 3:00pm until the time of service. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in his name. Robert's family would like to extend their thanks to the Doctors and staff at St. Vincent Hospital, especially, Stacy Miller, for their care and compassion.
