Beloved mother and wife, Georgian (Jean) Rose Beito, was born in St. James December 23, 1926 to George Willard Forsyth Jr and Kathleen Esther Forsyth. Jean passed peacefully August 15, 2014 at age 87. Jean was preceded in death by her father, George Willard Forsyth Jr. (1942); mother, Kathleen Esther (Ter Haar) Forsyth (1983); brother, Blair Thomas Forsyth (1984); son, Michael Gorden Beito (2012).
Jean is survived by her husband; Gorden Watsby Beito; sons, Thomas (Elaine) Beito and David Beito, daughter; Kathryn (Matthew) Bjorkstrand; grandchildren; Katrina, Wyatt, Erik and Tommy; brother; Raymond Judson Forsyth,
Georgian “Jean” Rose Beito graduated from St. James High School in 1944. After high School, Jean attended the College of St. Theresa in Winona; graduated from the Central Radio and Television school in Kansas City, and was employed by Eastern Airlines in Atlanta, Georgia. Jean returned to Minnesota presumably to help her mother with the Havenwood Hotel. Lucky thing, Jean met her husband, Gorden Beito, after WWII in Dakota Minnesota along the Mississippi River, where Jean and her mother Kathleen Forsyth, owned and managed the Havenwood Hotel. Jean was waitressing when Gorden and a friend stopped for lunch; they dated three times and Gorden asked her to marry him. She said yes. Gorden and Jean were married on October 21, 1946 in Winona and managed the hotel until moving to Mankato in 1950; where they made Mankato their permanent residence. They have been married 68 years.
Jean was a homemaker, loved cooking, baking, pampering her family, caring for flowers, knitting, traveling and visiting friends at St James high school reunions. She loved to visit the Gunflint Trail and Grand Marais, where her father frequently visited on fishing trips. Neighborhood kids always seemed to know when she had just baked a fresh batch of chocolate chip cookies and they would be there ready to consume them. Jean raised four children, made the remarkable decision for her youngest son, David, to have experimental open heart surgery at the Mayo Clinic in 1956 when he was 11 weeks old and he survived. And then, later saw her oldest son, Michael, go off into the Marines and Viet Nam War. Jean was an exuberant, gentle and fun loving woman of very strong character. Jean had fun starting, owning and managing her own business, “Jeans Children's Boutique”, in downtown Mankato in the late 1970s. Most recently she loved and enjoyed being with her grandchildren.
The Beito family wishes to thank her care givers at Mayo Health Systems – Mankato, Ecumen Pathstone Crossing and Mayo hospice for their loving kindness and support. Jean's wishes were that memorials be given to the charity of your choice.
