Floyd H. (Dutch) Bird, 94, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, died Jan. 1, in Bountiful.
He was born to John Bird and Etta Nate on Oct. 18, 1915. He was the youngest of eight children.
He married LaRee Wallentine on June 24, 1936 in the Salt Lake Temple.
Floyd lived most of his life in Montpelier, where he worked as the town barber for nearly 50 years.
He was also involved in public service including city council, county school board, and county commission. He loved serving others whether in public life or even going to the hospital to cut someone's hair or shave them when they were sick. He had a big heart and often quietly helped people who came in the barber shop and needed a hand.
As a young man in high school, Floyd was an undefeated middle-weight boxer.
Shortly after the start of World War II, he joined the US Navy where he served for two years. He was an avid fisherman and loved the outdoors where he enjoyed camping in his trailer with his wife and son.
Floyd was kind and loving to his son, daughter-in-law, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Floyd was preceded in death by his mother, father and seven siblings. He leaves behind his wife LaRee, son Terrell (Judy) Bird of Woods Cross, Utah, four granddaughters, Richelle (Travis) Bradley, Terrilee (Brian) Olney, Marissa (Jeff) Jones, Ameedaun (Erin) Seelye and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 9 at the Montpelier Second Ward LDS Chapel at noon. Friends may call prior to services from 10 to 11:45 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Montpelier Cemetery.
