Laura Matthys, age 87, of Eagle Lake, passed away on August 3, 2010. She was born on September 21, 1922 in Schulenberg, Texas to the late Otto and Martha Gummelt Ritter. She was a librarian at the Eagle Lake Public Library, a Pink Lady at Rice Medical Center, was active in her church, made bead necklaces out of church bulletins, and enjoyed playing cards and dominoes.

She is survived by three sons; John Matthys and wife Bess of Richmond, George Matthys and wife Debbie of Taylor, and James Matthys and wife Gail of Beasley; five grandchildren, Justin Matthys and wife Beth, Rachel Smith and husband Brad, Kelli Mammon and husband Jeff, Allyson Matthys, and Bethany Matthys; three great grandchildren; Brodan Smith, Leyton Smith, and Callan Smith; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George C. Matthys, sisters; Elsa Holman, Gertrude Burton, Olga Goldberg, and brothers; Helmuth Ritter and Wilbert Ritter.

Visitation will begin on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Eagle Lake. Funeral services will be on Friday at 10 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Eagle Lake. Graveside services will be on Friday at 1:30 p.m. at San Geronimo Cemetery in Seguin under the direction of Triska Funeral Home.
